Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii' is a fast growing, very jungly plant also known as the Red Abyssinian banana. Though not hardy it can be grown outside duriing the summer months either planted out or in a large container.
They cannot be easily grown from suckers or offshoots like bananas. They are grown from seed or tissue culture, but this is not a good option for most home gardeners. They will fruit in the summer with a banana-like fruit that hangs in bunches, but the fruit is not edible.
